An often overlooked genre of films that the whole family can enjoy together is the documentary. A documentary does exactly what its name says: it documents real people and events in history using factual records, reports, interviews, photos, animation and more to communicate its topic in a meaningful way. But this need not be a boring or tedious medium of communication. Rather, a well-produced documentary captivates and enthralls while simultaneously informing and opening up new avenues of learning about the subject matter in previously unexplored ways.
